When to Apply Eye Makeup
When Should You Apply Your Eye Makeup?
When it comes to applying eye makeup, there are many differing opinions on when you should apply it. Some beauty gurus swear by doing their eyes before everything else and some disagree with this sentiment. Turns out there isn’t a clear-cut answer to this beauty industry debate. Rather there are general tips and tricks that industry professionals use to make applying eye makeup a little easier.
Applying Eye Makeup Before Foundation
The consensus is that when the eyeshadow is glittery or shimmering, then it should be applied before you do the foundation. We have all had the unfortunate experience of working with glitter – it tends to go everywhere and it’s almost impossible to remove it. This is also the case with glittery eye makeup. Shimmery eyeshadow can sometimes be messy and risky to apply as there can be excess fall off. If you have already perfected your foundation application, then you will have to redo it to clean the excess off. Glitter should be applied to bare skin rather than on foundation as it’s easier to clean. When working with loosely packed eyeshadows, applying it before a foundation is also clever as you run the risk of getting pigment stuck to your foundation and then having to redo your look.
Applying Eye Makeup After Foundation
When opting for a more natural look, many makeup artists suggest applying foundation first as it’s much easier to match your eyeshadow to your complexion. It can be quite difficult to visualise the overall look when your face is bare. Another reason to do foundation first is efficiency. It takes much less time to apply foundation to a bare face than to try and work carefully around your completed eyes.
