When you are a makeup artist, you need to know how to apply makeup for all kinds of occasions. Perhaps the most popular of these falls into the category of formal events. These include matric dances, weddings, corporate events, and more.

With this in mind, we at Face to Face Beauty & Make-up Design School want to give you all the tools you’ll need to know how to apply makeup, and become the best makeup artist you can be, for any type of occasion.

Tips on How to Apply Glamourous Makeup

Now, when using makeup on a daily basis, we tend to stick to subtle, more natural tones and colours. Formal events usually require the complete opposite. In fact, most professionals would agree that a look for any formal event should dazzle with a bit of drama. Of course, many clients may prefer a more toned-down look, but, in general, most women would want the opportunity to feel glamourous.

Knowing this, here are a few general tips for applying formal makeup:

  1. Skin prep: The first and most vital step is making sure that the face is clean before applying any makeup products. To do this, you will need to cleanse the skin with either a facewash or gel cleanser.
  2. Foundation: Once again, the choice will be different for each client, so make sure you choose a foundation that blends with their skin tone. You will also need to apply a durable foundation product to ensure that the client’s makeup doesn’t fade during the event.
  3. Colour correction and concealer: Follow this step to cancel out any blemishes or skin discolouration, such as having bags under the eyes. Once the colour corrector has been successfully applied, you can apply a normal concealer over the blemishes. This ensures that the face isn’t covered in layers of foundation.
  4. Add colour: No one wants to look pale in photographs! Remember to apply some blush and highlighter.
