Reflexology – 3 Popular Reflexology Methods
Explore the World of Reflexology with Face to Face Beauty & Make-up Design School
Reflexology is a wellness practice where therapists work with pressure points on the feet (and sometimes ears) to boost bodily health, balance, and well-being. Pressure massage has been around for thousands of years, with the earliest practices having roots that go back to Ancient Egypt and China, 4000 BC.
In today’s world, there are many types of reflexology methods. Three popular approaches include the following:
- Ingham Reflexology: This is the most widely practised type in the Western world and ultimately focuses on balancing the client’s body and creating relaxation by applying gentle pressure to the feet. Thumb walking is a common technique in this practice, allowing the therapist to exert varying levels of pressure on the client’s feet to achieve bodily health.
- Rwo Shur Reflexology: This practice is incredibly popular in Asia – specifically Singapore, and Taiwan. Fast-flowing motions and firm pressure characterise the approach. Therapists might use their knuckles and even small wooden sticks to apply pressure rather than solely thumb-walking.
- Hot stone Reflexology: Hot stone practices – much like hot stone massages – utilise hot and cold stones to apply pressure. Instead of the therapist using only their hands alone, they also use stones to apply pressure onto specific reflex points. The heat can aid deeper relaxation by getting into the muscles and opening energy channels.
