How to Apply Your Make-Up to Get that Retro Look

Retro LookDo you love 1950s-inspired clothing, hair, and make-up? So do we! If you want to know how you can get the retro look when applying your make-up, you’re in luck. Today we’re going to teach you how in just a few simple steps.

Start with Applying Foundation

This look is partly characterised by smooth, porcelain skin. You don’t need fair skin to pull it off. Simply find a foundation that matches your skin tone and create a smooth and even appearance. Ensure that your face, neck, and body are the same colour.

One of the first things you realise when learning how to apply make-up is the importance of blending your foundation. Get a proper blending sponge to help with this.

Rock those Rosy Cheeks

Pick a blush colour that suits your skin tone and apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks. Then following your cheekbones, gently sweep the application brush towards your hairline and blend your blusher properly.

How to Wow with Winged Eyeliner

Start by putting either a light-brown or pink eyeshadow to your eyelids to create a nice background for the winged eyeliner. For depth, you can put a brown eyeshadow on your eyelids and use a pink eyeshadow on the crease. Take a highlighter like a white or beige eyeshadow, and apply it along the brow bone.

Next comes the trickiest part: your eyeliner. You’ll need a steady hand for this. Placing your elbow onto a sturdy surface will help. You can use a liquid eyeliner or an eyeliner pencil.

Start in the corner of your upper eyelid and then, keeping the eyeliner as close as possible to your upper lash line, start tracing a line towards the outer corner of your eye. When you reach the outer corner, continue the line but change the angle slightly upwards towards the ends of your eyebrows.

Finish this make-up look with black mascara and some red lipstick, and voilà, you’ll look like the next Marilyn Monroe in the making!
