Register for Beauty College Johannesburg
Register for Professional Qualification at a Leading Johannesburg Beauty College
Today’s students who register for studies at our prestigious beauty college in Johannesburg probably have no idea that once upon a time, quite long ago, this wonderful, diverse field was not seen as a profession, nor was accredited formal training or recognised qualification offered.
This is one of the major reasons why our founder, Mrs Rhona Greaves, established her beauty college at which you’re about to register in Johannesburg, way back in 1965. It’s interesting to note that prior to the beauty industry being regarded as a profession, it was often considered to be rather “less than…”
Erstwhile Negative Perception Reflected in Song
It comes to mind that the actor and singer Frankie Valli released a song called “Beauty School Dropout” in 1978, in which the lyrics typify the general perception about the beauty college student. This song, re-recorded by Frankie Avalon, was subsequently used in the soundtrack of Grease, becoming a hit for the second time.
Lyrics include phrases such as “your story, sad to tell”, “teenage ne’er do well”, “most mixed up” and “your future’s so unclear now” – a very far cry from today’s beauty academy learner who registers to study at Mrs Greaves’ college.
Commitment to Change and Professionalism
Nevertheless, in addition to being passionate about make-up and all things related to beauty, Mrs Greaves realised that this industry required uplifting, recognition, accreditation, and that it should and could be placed on a professional footing.
Continuity, Growth and Recognition
Throughout the years, her academy has remained in the capable hands of the same family and her descendants. Our growth has been steady, yet phenomenal. The growing demand for bona fide tuition and qualifications became so great that we found it necessary to establish a second campus to accommodate more learners.
At all costs, we sought to avoid having overlarge classes or compromising on our high ratio of staff to students. Whilst the first campus remains at our head office premises in Parktown, Johannesburg, the second is situated just to the west of the city, in the suburb of Helderkruin, Roodepoort.
A Proud, Professional Reputation
Now, the school has the proud reputation of being the longest established beauty, make-up design and special effects college in South Africa, enjoying both national and international recognition and accreditation, which extends to our school’s successful graduates.
