Face to Face & Reflexology

ReflexologyGetting Face to Face with Reflexology

To those who do not know exactly what reflexology is, it consists of massage techniques to activate pressure points on the soles of the feet. For most people, most types of massage are exceptionally enjoyable and relaxing. The application of pressure to specific points on the body is expected to release tension, tightness, and knots from muscles.

While these sensations and expectations also apply to the ancient treatment, this discipline is designed to accomplish more.

One definition from the Australian Government’s Department of Health is that it is a “system of applying pressure, usually to the feet, which practitioners believe stimulates energy and releases ‘blockages’ in specific areas that cause pain or illness”.

Nonetheless, it suffices to say that it refers to a type of alternative, natural, non-invasive, and holistic medicine. In almost all practices, the reflexologist has a chart that displays the various pressure points on both feet, plus a notation that indicates with which body part, zone, or organ it may connect.

Reflexology at Face to Face Beauty and Make-up Design School

At Face to Face Beauty and Make-up Design School in Johannesburg, where we offer an excellent short modular course in reflexology, we define and teach it as a “theory and therapy that uses the feet to treat the whole body”. Through manipulation and the application of pressure to certain parts of the feet, the whole body can be “re-turned” and retuned to return balance to the body.

It is a Face to Face certificate course that extends over ten sessions of 3.5 hours each. Interesting subjects include reflexology’s history, anatomy and physiology of the feet, reading and mapping the feet and body, treating specific disorders and diseases, referral areas, and the progression and planning of treatment and therapy.

Completing a Face to Face reflexology course can become an excellent stand-alone venture or a valuable addition to your massage, aromatherapy, waxing, or nail treatment qualifications.
