How to Apply Make-Up

A Sneak Peek at How to Apply Make-Up Like the Pros

Do you want to learn the tricks that professional make-up artists use? From hiding redness, achieving natural looking brows, contouring and highlighting, and blending foundation, to mastering the notorious smokey eye – here’s a sneak peek at how to apply make-up like the professionals do.

#1 Get Rid of Redness with Eye Drops

Every woman has bad skin days and good skin days. Sometimes, you wake up with a smooth, even complexion, and other times, you wake up with red blotches all over your face. So, what’s the solution? Eye drops. Simply dap some on a cotton swab and pat it over the redness, and in a few minutes, the redness will be gone. As crazy as this may sound, eye drops work like a bomb.

#2 Use Thin Strokes for Natural-Looking Brows

Not all women need to fill in their eyebrows, but if you’re looking to create a fuller, more natural brow, then the best way to go about it is to use a small, thin angled brush, and a slim brow pencil that is one shade darker than your natural brow colour. Using the pencil, create small strokes in the direction that your brow hairs grow. You will instantly notice how more natural they look compared to your normal daily brow routine.

#3 Contour and Highlight

It’s no secret that make-up is no longer just about slapping on foundation, lipstick, blusher, eyeliner, and mascara. We’ve entered into the world of illusion. Shaping your face is an important part of how to apply make-up like professionals, so once you master the technique of contouring and highlighting, you’ll be well on your way to always looking as if you’ve just jumped off the front cover of a fashion magazine.

#4 Use Concealer and Foundation

Have you ever wondered if you should skip foundation and go straight to concealer? While some women prefer concealer, others only use foundation. Ultimately, it all depends on your skin. While concealer covers broken capillaries, blemishes, pimples, and dark circles, foundation is used to give a smooth and even toned complexion. Depending on the client’s skin, most professional make-up artists use both. While the concealer should be at least two shades lighter than your skin tone, it is useful to have two different shades of foundation, a lighter one and a darker one.

#5 The Defined Smouldering Smokey Eye

Still turning heads on runways – nothing can compete with the infamous smokey eye. A style that never fails in delivering depth and dimension, the smokey eye is a classic look that will always reign supreme, in both the fashion and bridal industry. Simply line your outer upper lash line and outer bottom lash line, and then smudge it with a brush. While make-up artistry is a learned skill – you’re never too old or too young to learn how to apply make-up.
